Local guide to Markdwon and post editing within the post editor

Feature Requests
  • I just installed the Colors plugin on my system and came to the realization that visitors to the site will not know how to add colors to texts and many might not even know how to use Markdown.

Now, I know that there is a link to Markdown at the bottom of the post editor, but I'll like to add some post editing/creation instructions specific to the site that are not part of Markdown. An example would be the feature that the Colors plugin brings to the table.

So here's the feature request, if it's doable: A Posting Guide or Help tab after the Preview tab that's essentially a static page that contains instructions on the basics of Markdown and optional features like adding colored text. It will, of course, be editable and created by the admin or publisher.

  • I agree (to an extent), but I'll also point out that other forum softwares don't provide a guide as to how to write/format BBCode. That's not to say that we shouldn't just because others don't, just something to think about.

The other thing is to take into account that markdown is just one parser in use. We could put help instructions into the composer, but if somebody switches their parser to BBCode (there is one for NodeBB), then the markdown help is not correct at all.

  • @julian

Good points, but that's why I also said that the gide should be editable by the admin. For example, on my site, the Colors plugin is enabled, but that might not be true for others, so that's a site-specific guide that could be in the Help guide.

  • Oh, I know... how about a composer.help filter hook that starts off empty (''), but gets populated by each plugin? 🙂

Our forum is in paginated form, so I was not aware of this function... I was writing for paginated design so everyone can use it, but apparently infinite scroll design is already using it...

So, in this case my question will be about paginated forum...

There are redundancy and lack of buttons..

    Arrows are:

    two << (up) or
    one < (up)

    or

    two >> (down) or
    one > (down)

two arrows takes you either to the first or last post of the topic... one arrow takes you previous or next posts...

However there are already pagination, so you can go to first or last page with pagination anyway... with these settings there are no way you can go to the top of the page, or to the bottom of the page (I meant first post of the page not the topic or last post of the page not the topic), you have to scroll to the top or to the bottom...
I think it will be more useful if two arrows take you to the top of bottom of the page rather than topic... If people wants to go to the first page or last page, they can do it using pagination anyway...

Limiting posts to people with certain badges is one thing, but groups and their permissions is definitely something that needs to be flushed out a bit more in the future.

@hek What is the problem, the jumping doesn't actually take you to the bottom?

Nope. It loads jumps around and I end up at the top post. But it is intermittent. Sometimes it works.

I'll try clearing the bookmark (is it stored locally?) to see if it helps.

haha I think, just put all your comments in one place and we can try implementing them for the next theme. I really have a ridiculous habit of creating stuff and then dropping them later (ADHD when it comes to themes and plugins), so yeah. If you want, submit a PR for lavender 😛

Just made this thread - http://community.nodebb.org/topic/1010/nodebb-s-next-theme#7382 let me know any ideas/suggestions 😉

Use ifttt.com from the RSS feed rather than forcing social networks on people. If you catch my drift.

It's not forcing. It's optional. Assume the users want it. How to use ifttt.com for this task?
