Beginning to believe that @Gargron doesn't want me contributing to #mastodon — he's now partially recreated three of my pull requests that I've worked on.

@thisismissem I'm thankful for your work Emelia, I'm also excited for somebody to fork Mastodon.
-
@rolle @thisismissem @Gargron @renchap it makes a lot more sense when you realize Website Boy wants to be the next Jack Dorsey, but it's just never going to actually happen.
-
@thisismissem @Gargron @elduvelle really sorry to hear that Emelia!
-
@dave @thisismissem @Gargron @renchap Sorry, but didn't quite catch what is your argument...? A singular maintainer individual of an open source software does not make you a corporate tech bro.
-
@thisismissem @MastodonEngineering I'm glad that you're working on this and are feeling better now. Your work is very valuable!
-
@rolle @thisismissem @Gargron @renchap no, but acting like a techbro by stealing women's work (and ignoring BIPOC entirely) does.
-
-
@thisismissem I didn't see it and I'm not close to anyone involved, but I respect your effort to improve the situation. Now more than ever, we must collaborate rather than ostracize.
-
@necedema you can see it by viewing the post edit history if you want.
-
@dave @thisismissem @Gargron @renchap It's more like behaving like an ass. I agree, tech bros can be like that. But I'd very much like to avoid the terminology in the open source world as much as possible. There's still hope in this case.

Screamin' Jay Grant 🏳️⚧️replied to Julien Colomb last edited by
@jcolomb why are you asking a female contributor to do the glue work here? Are you aware that many female contributors in floss are assigned glue work as a way to undervalue their work?

Emelia 👸🏻replied to Screamin' Jay Grant 🏳️⚧️ last edited by
@mxjaygrant @jcolomb @renchap @wild1145 I don't believe that anyone was asking me to do anything here. I think that was directed at the mastodon team.
-
@thisismissem @MastodonEngineering this edit reads like @Gargron coerced you to retract your words somehow, which would be not surprising at all.
-
@thisismissem @MastodonEngineering Are you sure that you are alright? You seemed really upset in the original post and supported it with a lot of evidence. This sudden edit and turn-around is really worrying and just makes the Mastodon team look worse. You could have left the original post and made a comment to it to show how there was an issue at first but it got resolved. Now it just looks like you were forced to change the post.

@thisismissem @MastodonEngineering
As a somewhat baby developer myself, I found it hard to figure out how to get involved with the development process.
When making a PR to Mastodon a while back, I was really keen to have an IRC / Slack / @matrix channel that I could join to ask questions about the development plan before diving into writing code.
You think something like that would help?
I did get a response to my PR eventually but by that time the code needed to be updated, to work with the latest main branch, and I no longer had time to update it myself.
-
@Kiloku Nope, this is entirely me reflecting on the situation and wanting to shift to a more positive energy.
I can say something in anger, then take time to reflect, before then revising my statement to reflect how I like to work. Public call outs usually aren't my style if I can avoid them.
I was incredibly tired yesterday that contributed to my very emotional response, and had other contributing factors.
-
@justsoup @MastodonEngineering I wanted to edit the original post, since that's what had gone viral, and I think it's important for everyone who boosted it to see that I've reflected and adjusted my position.
This was a decision I made myself, and then told the Mastodon team about it.

@benx @MastodonEngineering @matrix that'd be the discord, that's where conversations can take place.
Yes, you do need to be a supporter of the project to be in the space, but it's $12 a year to participate there.
