"What’s been really striking this year is that while traditionally deep distrust of the mainstream press has long been the province of right-wing Republicans, now it’s liberals who once cheered for the media to do better who seem to be giving up on them."

Journalist D. Earl Stephens on the media's performance:
"Trump has been undeniably good for their bottom lines, which looks to me to be the only damn thing they truly care about.
If Trump goes away, so does does the money. And what of the millions of dollars of tax cuts he’s promising to once again give the owners of these pompous rags?"

/12TIME'S UP
We deserve answers from our mainstream media for their failure to adequately cover the greatest threat to America in more than 160 years ...

I love what you write. But most days, I have to mute you for 24h because your posts are split into so many.
If your instance doesn't allow more characters, then consider moving. Or maybe relying on people clicking the links to read more. -

@corporatecrimes Sorry, but I see a vast difference between the two parties, and think the "both sides" and "both parties" analysis is a real diversion from the reality of what is facing us right now with two very different parties.

@chiclet Sorry that's a difficulty for you. I assume wen I make threads that people will read whatever portion of a thread they want to read, not necessarily the entire thread.

@kims Thank you. Looks really interesting and is a new book to me.

@mergy Thank you very much for this link. I had not read this article and look forward to doing so. I did read a report in New York Times today that was, in my view, shallower than shallow.

@bhawthorne @mastodonmigration Yes, that definitely plays a key role in what's happening.

@astroPug Thanks for your positive feedback. When I click on the username of the person to whim I responded, his account is showing up as still open and active. Maybe some instances have suspended it?

That might be the case. My instance has been pretty good to me, I have to say. There is a lot of bad stuff I don’t have to see.

@grumble209 Some people see new coats of paint, others see something entirely different.
Some people troll. Others don't.

@DoesntExist A great name for it.

@edwardchampion Yes, I agree. Very good analysis. I've heard the claim repeatedly in my longish life (I'm 74) that men and boys are under attack, and always at the bottom of that claim is hostility to women's rights and the emergence of women as autonomous persons on the world stage at this time in history. It's high time that happened, but the resistance — from men — is fierce.

@apples_and_pears This explanation from historian Diarmaid MacCulloch is one of the best overviews I've read about why male hostility to shifting social patterns that call male dominance and entitlement (aka patriarchy) into question is surging is one of the best I've read.

@jawarajabbi Yes, he and his toxic version of masculinity exert a lot of influence, for sure.

@rvinson The sad thing is, though these divisions are exploited and made deeper by power actors, they're really there and really need to be addressed.
