There's no reason the instance need be open to the public, having it restricted to senators, MPs, etc. would even act as an automatic "verified" of sorts based on the domain.

@julian which is precisely the point. We know an email from gc.ca is legit. So should a social media handle. I think there is a fewr of the moderation requirements, but if you look at it from the lens of an enterpise class email server, the workload is very similar.
