Heads-up: The CTO of an "AI-powered social network" startup Maven, Jimmy Secretan (ex-lead of OpenAI), confirming that his app has "ingested about 1,120,000 posts from Mastodon".

@stefan @liaizon @djsundog It's clear from the feedback on this thread that even our experiments with the tech were confusing to users and didn't fit with other people's expectations of how it should work. We are currently pausing this integration, at least until we can better understand how Maven can fit in as a good citizen of the Fediverse.

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] but also lmao what a fucking secreting schmuck.
hey guys, I'm gonna re-post wikipedia and call it ENCYCLOPEDIA SECRETAN, money plzzzzzzz. "Look at how much activity is on my Sam Altman funded network, MORE MONEY PLZ"
but also lol at the entire "less toxic" as he takes money from Sam "I'm The World's Worst Gay Man And Should Be Booed At Pride" Altman. -
@stefan People will have different perspectives but posts are public on the fediverse, no?

@brianvastag The way I think about this, it would be helpful to allow everyone to create a robots.txt file for their own social media profile.
A website that's publicly available online can still define how its content can be accessed.

@Bette I just searched for my server name on the Discover page.
Maven
Maven: Follow interests, not influencers
(app.heymaven.com)
The good news is that they might just be deleting everything.
wakest ⁂ (@[email protected])
Attached: 1 image UPDATE 2: so it looks like @[email protected] is deleting the entire 1.12 million scraped posts off of Maven after this thread blew up. So cool I guess? But also sorta totally comes off as "whoopsies" we had no idea what would happen if you scrape millions of posts with no link back to the original. I hope to see an official post mortum on this incident from Maven
