  • @fffddd-dfeeedd Dunno. Maybe check your web server logs for some insight. I would postulate you might be being "hoovered" by a few things that are not so unique but not necessarily being identified as bots. Maybe some "business intelligence" or privately operated bot, etc.

There are a LOT more crawlers out there than the goog. The good, the bad, and the ugly. You should endeavor to block the bad and the ugly. There are various lists available on the net maintained by security and privacy oriented actors.

The goog favors paid advertisers over the rest of us peasants. I expect you'll need to wait a few more weeks. Bingbot seems to be a bit more "organinic" and not so egregiously discriminatory.

  • @gotwf What can you say about 1200 page views?

  • @fffddd-dfeeedd Not much. Many potential confounding variables. From my experience, I would posit that it is not googlebot, as the periodicity is too irregular. I (used) to see big spikes like that from the goog, but they'd tend to be spaced at multiples of four or six hours, depending on how busy my forums were.

Do you have access to your webserver logs, e.g. /var/log/nginx/access.log ? If so, look at those times and see if you can correlate w/any particular or small group of IP addresses. Then reverse lookup those puppies and see who owns them. Otherwise we're just grasping at straws.
