Number of subcategories that can be seen

I think only 10 subcategories can be seen with the default setting.
We have 16 subcategories in one of the main categories, however, only 10 of them are shown on the front page; additionally when the main category is selected only 10 of the subcategories can be seen with a button below that says "6 more categories".
How can I change this setting? I would like all 16 of them to be seen on the main page and also on the category page.

I was looking for this under the "settings" section but apparently, this can be set for each category/subcategory separately (which is great!) under the "Manage" section...
it can be reached:
Manage > Categories > (then from 3 dots click "Edit" for the category you want to edit)
default number is "10"
