@julian said in is nodebb the right choice ? why the community is not vary "active "? installed nodebb and finds it vary enjoyable so far, where is everyone?:

I will say this, however... I refuse to believe that humanity will stoop to the lowest common denominator. Yes, maybe we'll go through phases where we just send memes to one another, but we will always rise above and return to a medium where long-form content is shared and appreciated. We will always need long-form journalism, and yes, even forum software for in-depth discussion.

This is a great point. Long-form responses that actually explain something add far more weight and value in my view. I'm no fan of the tldr brigade, and it's just being lazy. Yes, I appreciate that (in the case of my forum which offers solutions) people are keen to get to the bottom line, but if you don't read the thread in it's entirety, what did you learn exactly ?

The answer? Nothing - you just got the answer which you won't remember when the same issue occurs in the future 🙂

    Hi,

I'm trying to implement the adsense plugin:

    GitHub - NodeBB-Community/nodebb-plugin-adsense: adsense plugin

adsense plugin. Contribute to NodeBB-Community/nodebb-plugin-adsense development by creating an account on GitHub.

    favicon

    GitHub (github.com)

It asks for an "Ad Slot Unit" number for different places to post the ads but I can't find the "Ad Slot Unit" in Adsense. It looks like it has been discontinued. Adsense instead provides HTML code.

Is there a way to use the plugin? Or do I have to use the HTML (Javascript) in a widget? I tried putting the code from Google in a widget and it doesn't work.

    All the Best,

    Dan

Really quickly: The NodeBB folks favor Ubuntu. The CentOS guide you linked is pretty dated, as evidenced by some now defunct links. I did not use that one so cannot speak to it. It may perhaps be more expedient to move what you have to some backup dir and do over following Scott's guide. I know that works. Moreover, Centos 7 default repos bundle really dated packages. Recommend you set up nodejs and nginx repos if not already.

If you have gui access on that box, I would be curious as to what happens if you bypass the proxy and jack straight into NodeBB on port 4567? If not and you want to try this from an external network, I recommend configuring firewall such that only YOUR ip is allowed to hit that port.

If it then works, then something is amiss with nginx config (wh/I do not have time to review just now.). If not, then more likely NodeBB conf issue.

@yariplus said in Normal users are able to "feature" topics.:

You seem to have installed either featured-topics-extended or featured-threads. Neither of these is included in the default package.

This appears to be a bug, since the option should not appear for non-moderators. However, the buttons do not actually work.

As for broken links, I tested my plugin featured-topics-extended and all links are working. The plugin featured-threads is broken however.

Damn I keep forgetting to turn on the "Watch topics you create" option so I keep missing replies on here. Sorry about that!

Thank you very much for the response, I just figured that out today actually. I had both installed still so I thought that all "featured topics" plugins were broken on my forums, after I disabled the other one yours worked.

P.S. (Not sure if it's a new feature but I didn't see it at first) But I love the featured topic cards. That's exactly what I was looking for when I first joined these support forums. Keep up the good work!

P.S.S. If you ever need any testing grounds or anything on a large scale for your plugins, our forums got almost 13,000 registered users in under two weeks and we expect it to continue to grow.
