Shoutout to Amazon for automatically updating my Kindle version of "Leviathan Wakes" -- which I purchased before the Expanse was a TV series -- to "Leviathan Wakes: Book 1 of the Expanse (Now a Prime Original series)"

@chris I just threw up in my mouth a little. That's... let me try to find the right adjective here... despicable? Revolting?

@killyourfm Good luck with freeing your books! I just recently went trough the whole process (and over 1000+ comic books that I originally bought on Comixology before Amazon bought and killed the platform). Calibre with KFX and DeDRM 10.0.9 worked fine for me except for some new books published in 2024 I'm done with Amazon, I'm using Kobo, Libbyapp and epubs from our local public library now.
-
@killyourfm if you donโt want your Kobo to phone everything home via Google Analytics (yep they do that), the steps described in this post apply to the Kobo Colour as well. My wife has one, and she loves it!
-
@chris Hey, Libbyapp is new to me! This looks fantastic.
-
@killyourfm I've been a happy Kobo user for four years, but recently I decided to go back to paperback editions because I'm old
-
@thibaultamartin Thanks for this! I'm adding it to a list of resources.
-
@canrith6696 Well hey, there's nothing better than analog
I do the same thing with my very favorite authors (James S.A. Corey, Adrian Tchaikovsky). -

@[email protected] obligatory mention of Calibre Web โ you can trick your Kobo into pulling from your media server instead of the Kobo store

@ajswritesthings This is definitely on my radar! And the interface seems a lot more modern than Calibre.
-
@killyourfm Welcome to the Kobo life. The waterโs lovely.
-
@DJDarren Thank you!

I feel like something is missing from the sleep screen on my Koboโฆ
Ads. Ads are missing

This is neat! A stats screen for the book you're currently reading, and progress stats for your entire library. (It's showing ~4 hours because I've only had my Kobo for a couple of days).
-
@killyourfm I really really love my Kobo. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it.
-
@dm It seems better than my Kindle Paperwhite in every way, including responsiveness and wake time. The battery may end up being slightly inferior, but that's my only (minor) quibble.

@killyourfm are you finding the kobo to be faster than the Kindle. Thatโs my biggest issue with the Amazon devices, they are so damn slow.

@baltmatrix Yes, it's noticeably faster than my Kindle Paperwhite. It feels more responsive, and also wakes up from sleep instantly.

This is how fast the Kobo Libra Colour wakes from sleep. Lightning fast compared to Kindle.
