"CBS announced over the weekend that moderators Margaret Brennan and Norah O’Donnell will not correct any lies when vice presidential candidates Tim Walz and JD Vance meet in New York to debate on Tuesday night."

@wdlindsy You gotta know that when two men are more worried about what they look like than anything else, they're not thinking of the real needs of American people.

@wdlindsy CBS has apparently decided to offer an option for fact-checking tomorrow’s VP debate. “Viewers who scan the (QR) code will be directed to the CBS News website, where a squad of about 20 CBS journalists will post fact-checks of the candidates’ remarks in real time.”

@wdlindsy
Walz should discuss couches and donuts.He could do it in some really subtle ways:
"I donut think you've couched that argument well, JD."

Fear isn't going to cut it. Anger is a motivator with staying power. Determination. Grit. Courage, in other words, which is what the corporate tools in the media have none of.

@wdlindsy "It seems clear that CBS is trying to avoid the blowback ABC got after the presidential debate."
That's how Republicans have kept the press in check. They howl so loudly at any honest reporting on them that the media lets them get away with almost anything for the sake of not getting yelled at.
-
@wdlindsy
The #bigcorp media is either really dumb or is in on the scam.Just the air time alone spent talking about all the dumb stuff he is saying is taking away from time that they could be using to report on the honest good stuff that the VP is saying.
That is the goal, suck up the airtime so her words dont get out.
Just reporting on what he is saying is the goal of what he is doing.
We need a free press with old fashion journalistic integrity.

@wdlindsy CBS already told us where they stood. Trump is good for CBS.

@dan613 @wdlindsy #CBS: the network of Walter Cronkite. Eric Severeid. #60Minutes. The network that helped bring down #JoeMcCarthy. Fred Friendly basically negotiated broadcast standards with the #FCC in the ‘50s.
How very far they’ve fallen. Cronkite must be spinning in his grave. Shame. Shame. -

@SonofaGeorge Yes, I think of that outstanding history, how my family looked forward to watching Walter Cronkite (and Dan Rather and Roger Mudd on CBS) as I was growing up.
And now this. Talk about how the mighty choose to fall.

@mral You're right. And he puts us all in a bind as he lies, bloviates, and makes toxic, dangerous statements. If we pay attention to them and discuss them, then we're feeding into his strategy to suck all the air out of the room and make himself the only visible person in the room. But we can't afford to ignore them, either, given how much rides on them.

@cherold You're right. This is part of a long game to cow media and force it to frame its stories in a right-wing context that pleases Republicans — or, otherwise, it will be Katy bar the door for media.

@aka_quant_noir Whether we focus on fear or anger — and they aren't mutually exclusive, surely — I think our main focus should be, with Mark Jacobs, on "the New York Times’ ability to laugh it off shows how it is failing to live up to its duty as a major news organization in a democracy."

@JeanPoole_AZ Thanks for that information and the link. This is a lick and a promise, as far as I'm concerned — and it represents an abdication of real journalistic responsibility to challenge lies.
