It turns out true intelligence is whatever pleases the shareholders

@jalefkowit The inventor of the Pet Rock only cleared $15 million, which makes rocks only 0.00015% sentient as Microsoft and OpenAI define it.

@griesar Worthington's Law in action

@jalefkowit no, no, that's amazing. they operationalized it. well done lol
-
@jalefkowit like, yes we see people calling this ridiculous and, sure, it is, but keep in mind that, under this definition, it is immediately obvious that the company has not achieved the thing they claim to, and that will keep being the case as long as they haven't
-
@jalefkowit given the 50-year history of goalpost-moving around the entire concept of "artificial intelligence", something like this does seem necessary

@ireneista Life gets a lot easier when you can solve philosophical problems by pointing at your accountant and saying "you are a philosopher now"
-
@ireneista @jalefkowit I mean it also just says everything about these people, right? "AGI is when it makes $100bn" is absolutely what we should have expected.
Imagine OpenAI building a real artificial superintelligence and it not officially counting because it doesn't think that making $100bn is a worthy goal
-
@andrewt @ireneista @jalefkowit ...or thinks reaching the goal would have undesirable outcomes for it!
-
@jalefkowit i had negative expectations and yet im still disappointed
-
@SRAZKVT Who says they're not innovating
-
@jalefkowit is something intelligent if it doesn’t generate profit? Need to rethink our assessments of Einstein…

Now that we've all had fun clowning on the idea of defining AGI by a dollar amount, let the Corporate Cynic in me suggest a rational series of steps that could produce this outcome.
