@InvincibleSugar The problem, though, is that the choices many of us have made have now complexified the notion of family for a whole lot of us.

@energisch_ Yes, I agree.

@toxtethogrady @zuck Absolutely. I truly have nothing but contempt for Zuckerberg and the tech-bro aristocracy.
-
@brucetheknife I would do the same myself if it were not one tenuous way I can stay in touch with a wide circle of friends and relatives — and also I host a family history group there.
-
@burnoutqueen Yes.

@xankarn The absolutely insulting and mendacious explanation that it was "spam."

@Canevecchio I like that term, a German word I hadn't known, but can puzzle out by putting its pieces together in my hand. "Family of choice" we often say, contrasting it with family of origin. Yes, one can choose and build family and in the process, distance oneself from abusive families of origin. For many of us, this has long been a cecessity.
-
@zetabeta Yes, I agree.
-
@JustRosy Thank you. I appreciate the affirmation.

Disconnected because I's exhausted and preparing for the impending disaster. Some family was brainwashed by a MAGA church, while others were lured into the snake-pit by the bar & bowling alley tribe. Nothing else to say to them. They have entered the FAFO zone.

this should have been done long ago
fascists are not family, they are the thieves of life & hope who want to deny us equal opportunity, health, & freedom
shunning them is our only peaceful alternative since for thousands of years of human history (for all but a few decades!) they have made life miserable & not worth the trouble of living for the majority of humans
the only thing that has EVER slowed them down IN ALL THAT TIME is making it clear they're uncool & unwelcome

It sucks and it is terrible.
To be brought repeatedly to the realization that the ones you trusted have grown into monsters, who are far more interested in meanness and grievance than their own family.
-
@wdlindsy I totally get that. I definitely lost some connection by deleting my account. It was just nauseating to log on though.

@wdlindsy Gay New Yorker friends have just spent time with family in Miami, to see to their well-being, but fled before Thanksgiving and told them why.

@wdlindsy It took about two seconds for the same thing to happen to me.

@wdlindsy we cut ties with a lot of folks after 2020. This year we've doubled down. There's plenty of people out there that are not supporting a descent into authoritarian fascism and we'll spend time with them. I think it's important to now tho, that just cutting ties isn't enough. You need to let them know why you're cutting ties. It's also best to do it as a group.
