@Greengordon Yes. Excellent analysis from my friend Wendell Griffen.

@timo21 I have to admit having similar thoughts in the wee hours of the night as I toss and turn, sleepless.

Your Dad saw History
My 1st Customer buying one of the houses I built was a Pearl Harbor survivor
His Ship was sunk
He Ended up being one of the Investors in my Construction Company financing individual houses over a 5 year period until his death 1986
Don used to tell me stories of unbelievable horror as the Japanese attacked, his gunnery crew shot down a zero and he was really proud that he served America -

I remember my mother being in hospital in Cardiff in 1967 and the young woman in the next bed was in an iron lung because of polio.
She must have been one of the last pre-vaccination childhood cases

@TCMuffin Astonishing to think we may now be choosing — well, some of us may be choosing for the rest of us — to go back to those bleak days, isn't it?
-
William Lindsey :toad:replied to oldguycrusty last edited by
@oldguycrusty @TCMuffin Yes, I agree.

@Arqtec Yes, he lived through quite an historic event with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It was the only part of his war experiences he'd ever talk about. I think the horror was increased by the fact that there was no forewarning of the attack. My father said he was asleep in his berth, as were all the other Marines on his ship, and then the attack began suddenly and they had to run to man their stations. He was wounded when a bomb exploded near him and shrapnel pierced his abdomen.

Trump et al beggar belief
Mind you all this vaccine denier stuff started with this homegrown w who fraudulently claimed a link between the MMR vaccine and autism in 1998 causing vaccine uptake numbers to crash in most of the English speaking world 🤬
Oddly, the GMC striking him off the GM Register in 2010 received little publicity compared with that for his fraudulent research, from which he stood to benefit financially 🤬

@wdlindsy
Don said the same thing, some of the guys Maning the gun station were in their underwear
A Submarine was sunk as the 1st shot of the War trying to enter the harbor by the Ward a Old Destroyer
FDR knew War Was Coming, The Brits had sent warnings of Jap naval activity
Code Traffic was being intercepted
Germany Japan Italy wanted war
They wanted Oil, Land, and Slaves
WWII was the Technological Change to try out new ways to kill your fellow man
WWIII will be a Much Greater Death Toll -
@Arqtec Yes, that matches what my father said — men running out to the deck of their ships in underwear because the attack came all of a sudden as they slept. Your final two sentences are so good and also ominous.

Wendy My Wife, Her father was a Chevron Oil Engineer
Flew P-38's in WWII
He was the head of the chemical division of Chevron for years and was in Iran for negotiations
He remarked how VALUABLE the Iran Crude was, you could put it in a diesel and burn it right out of the ground
Not like Bakersfield's OilSands crude
lots of refining
The keystone pipeline would have permanently raised cost of refining
It would have been shipped as a foreign market product
making all US prices higher -
@Arqtec So much is driven by the determination of big players to continue having access to those oil fields in the Middle East, isn't it?

@TCMuffin Yes, you're right.

@wdlindsy
Prior to 1937 America was the equivalent to the Middle East
We have 1.4 Million stropper wells
Thats a well with aprox. 50% of its reserves intact
Natural gas is depleted so they get capped and move on to a more/easier extraction point
polymers can now be injected and new pressure developed, so production can continue
40% of domestic supply comes from this method
Oil Sand fields are least productive (Keystone Pipe Line would raise oil Cost per gallon)
450ppm carbon in the air?Cookin' -
@Arqtec Very good points.
