One time, I was asked to be in a magazine photoshoot.

i want to have a better relationship with the things i put on myself. i feel much more confident in general, and i feel like i do have opinions on what i like and don't.
yet fast fashion and also high femme fashion has just broken my brain completely on interacting at all with it.
there are some new friends in my life who have an approach to this that i admire (sustainable, distinct, fashion as a sense of self), and i'm learning about this a bit.
i don't lean super masc, but i am not femme

@skinnylatte Oooh we should talk.
I have some sensory issues that just make it impossible to wear clothing that binds.
Also, I should be able to and would love to make my own clothing, but I apparently have a huge mental hurdle about it, like, I don't want to draw attention to my fat, middle aged body?
-
@skinnylatte i like this idea a lot. it's art and craftsmanship to me personally, and i still just live in tshirts and gym shorts usually. have you ever browsed a street fashion site called Hel Looks? those folks are doing wild shit (complimentary) and it's often quite separate from gendered cues.
-
@aetataureate ooh that sounds great, thank you!
and yes i like the craft of it. i would be interested in making my own clothes actually

@artcollisions my sense is if you're making stuff for yourself you can make anything look good! and it will be 100% yours

@skinnylatte in college, hel looks inspired me to start doing things like cutting up my tshirts and then wearing them backward hahaha. seeing what people can do and make is really great.

@skinnylatte You look amazing in that black and white photo
-
@aetataureate oh yeah nordic fashion actually really resonates with me
-
i think the conclusion from my 'i probably have gender dysphoria' conversation that happened only in my brain is, i'm not masc, i'm not femme, i really just feel like a blob
non-binary, punk blobbbbbbbbbb
the only fashion symbol i can think of that resonates with me is probably kim gordon from sonic youth from age 20 to now
girly girl fashion is horrible for me
-
@skinnylatte If I could get away with wearing jeans and flannel shirts every day, I totally would.

@skinnylatte the way I’ve described my experience to people is that while I’ve never felt like I’m anything other than female it feels like most of the feminine software didn’t install right
-
@joannaholman I really like that
-
@skinnylatte Girl why are you in my head?
I feel exactly the same about my clothes and fashion. The most femme I feel whenever I wear dresses. Most of them are flowy and shapeless.

@farah hey I found this and it helped me visualize what I should try. Was never able to before I saw these diagrams

@skinnylatte I suspect you did it for the same reason I and so many other autistic people would have. Masking to avoid conflict, or to avoid being judged, or seen as different.
