People who have moved away from owning/using an Apple watch... what did you switch to? For the benefits it gives me, I don't think I really get much benefit in wearing my [aging] series 3, and I don't intend to update to a newer model.
Main feature of importance for me is comfort... so maybe a nice silicone strap on something simple. I don't even need to count steps, as my phone will happily do that.

@andycarolan
Switched to a Garmin Fenix 7 Pro. But, if you don't need a sports or smartwatch, any classy gentements watch would do. -

@andycarolan i ended up moving to a Casio, for somewhat philosophical reasons

@andycarolan most of the time I wear a G-SHOCK GW-5000U-1. I love that I don't need to 1) charge it (solar) and 2) adjust the time (because it does it automatically using radio).

@jorijn Ooh, now that's a nice watch! Honestly, I don't need any sports features. Most important to me is that it doesn't irritate my arm (which the silicone bands of an Apple watch are good for)

@andycarolan I've switched from Apple Watches to a Garmin Forerunner and I'll never go back. But if you don't need any sports features, it's a massive waste of money.

@markpitblado Oh very nice! I love the big numbers!
I like your take on smartwatch ownership... I worry about scuffing mine, the end of updates (which is disappearing into the rear view mirror lol), charging it every night, and for the convenience of not getting my phone out of my pocket lol.

@otaviocc Sounds convenient about the charging especially! If I miss charging mine for one night... It will be flat by morning lol
-
@jarunmb That looks neat! Not something I would find a use for sadly. My needs are minimal... and I'm trying to minimise them further lol

@mijndert I don't really need the sports features... aside from counting steps, which my phone will more or less do ok.
The Garmin watches do look awesome though!

@andycarolan my Garmin really helped me get fit over the past couple of months. And I only have to charge it once every 2 weeks or so. Great hardware, could be better on the software side though.

@mijndert Awesome that it's worked well for your fitness! The charging schedule sounds much more sensible than the every night requirement of my Apple watch lol

@andycarolan I got in on a Samsung Galaxy Fit2, a fitness watch (as opposed to a smart watch). It allows me to catch phone notifications, track my steps, set a timer, and go up to 10 days between charges.
Amazon (US) has the Fit3 for sale for about $45.

@andycarolan I've noticed that skin irritation does happen with silicone bands. It's an issue known to Garmin users as well. I've switched to Nylon bands. They're more comfortable, and no more skin irritation.

@djwfyi that's a really good price for that!

@jorijn Honestly, Silicone is the only thing that I've found doesn't irritate my skin lol.

@andycarolan G-Shock 5610 is all you need

@ljpuk Classic! I was just looking at those, and also noticed the 5600... I like the variety of colors available.

@andycarolan 5600 has cooler colors where the 5610 won for me was in comfort and functionality. The 5610 is a little smaller so more comfortable for me. It also has solar and sync'd via radio signals each night around 2am with the latest time. It depends on what you what really. I like the more colorful 5600 but for comfort it's the 5610.
