People who have moved away from owning/using an Apple watch...

@jarunmb That looks neat! Not something I would find a use for sadly. My needs are minimal... and I'm trying to minimise them further lol

@mijndert I don't really need the sports features... aside from counting steps, which my phone will more or less do ok.
The Garmin watches do look awesome though!

@andycarolan my Garmin really helped me get fit over the past couple of months. And I only have to charge it once every 2 weeks or so. Great hardware, could be better on the software side though.

@mijndert Awesome that it's worked well for your fitness! The charging schedule sounds much more sensible than the every night requirement of my Apple watch lol

@andycarolan I got in on a Samsung Galaxy Fit2, a fitness watch (as opposed to a smart watch). It allows me to catch phone notifications, track my steps, set a timer, and go up to 10 days between charges.
Amazon (US) has the Fit3 for sale for about $45.

@andycarolan I've noticed that skin irritation does happen with silicone bands. It's an issue known to Garmin users as well. I've switched to Nylon bands. They're more comfortable, and no more skin irritation.

@djwfyi that's a really good price for that!

@jorijn Honestly, Silicone is the only thing that I've found doesn't irritate my skin lol.

@andycarolan G-Shock 5610 is all you need

Andy Carolan :prami:replied to Lee Peterson (LJPUK) last edited by
@ljpuk Classic! I was just looking at those, and also noticed the 5600... I like the variety of colors available.

@andycarolan 5600 has cooler colors where the 5610 won for me was in comfort and functionality. The 5610 is a little smaller so more comfortable for me. It also has solar and sync'd via radio signals each night around 2am with the latest time. It depends on what you what really. I like the more colorful 5600 but for comfort it's the 5610.

@ljpuk that's interesting about the sizing, I tend to go for smaller watches too. Too big and I will hit it on every door frame that I walk through lol.

@andycarolan G-Shock will take a door no problem, if you get a chance to go to a store to try both on I would recommend doing that. If you aren't set on a G-Shock go F-91w to see how it feels going back old school.

@ljpuk Thanks for the info! Oh yes, I gather the F91w has quite a dedicated following. Very good value too !

@andycarolan TBH the sport loop bands for the apple watch are super super nice. And there’s plenty of times you can get them on clearance at TJ Maxx or Marshalls. I’ve scored plenty for $16, brand new.

@andycarolan I have moved to (well, kind of) to Polar Vantage V3.

@Aaron I have the normal silicon bands for mine. they are nice. Not tried the loop though.

@ornaled Awesome! Probably somewhat overkill for my level of activity lol.

@andycarolan yeah, it’s definitely more of a sportwatch than smartwatch, but at the same time it’s incredibly refreshing in how minimalistic it is compared to something like Garmins.

@ornaled There's certainly a lot of choice now with smart/sports watches. Can I ask what the charging cycle is like?
