This is an aspect of human behavior that is extremely destructive, and unfortunately very common. People in groups have a powerful urge to deny their colossal mistakes, and those of their ancestors.

At the moment, it's very visible in the "anti-Wokeness" movement.

When the recession hits next year induced by government mismanagement, poorly conceived tariffs, and the shock of massive government spending cuts people may wake up. We exist in a space where people don't care about good government they only care about their own economic woes. When 401K balances drop, social security checks don't show up, VA benefits vanish, and unemployment rises maybe then people will see the error of their choice. Hopefully we still have voting rights in 2026.
