@pixel @Jain I think Dan was talking about employing instance-based algorithms (or even some machine-learning thingy?) every instance admin can set up on their own. That backend in particular also was closed-source at the time, so I remember being really pissed about everything in this regard.

Officially I’m not impressed, unofficially I am impressed and won’t hinder unauthorized 3rd party access.

Btw, you and @h should help me define the v1 schema, I’m aware of 3 devs who plan to build 3rd party clients and would love your help in an official fashion!

@privateger @pixel @h Yes, and that is the plan, however NLnet funding is still pending my MoU plan which I've been to busy to finalize.

I don't want to give the impression that loops.video will be a centralized platform, it will be open sourced regardless of the NLnet grant, and with full account migration so loops.video users can find a better long term home on another instance

Also, I may use this opportunity to replace the backend with Rust or Go, I've written to much PHP and need a change

This isn't something you need to worry about though, and I saw your toot about REST and am updating endpoints to be more faithfully RESTful, and you may notice updated `v0.5` endpoints.

@pixel @h ngl, there was an initial temptation to block 3rd party access, but then I remembered I'm building this for the fediverse.

I'm kinda honoured that 3 different groups reverse engineered the API so quickly, and that's what the fediverse is all about!

I'm not trying to get rich quick with a TikTok clone, rather, I want to revive the magic of Vine and give the whole platform to the people so they can do it on their own terms.
