aaaaaaaaaaaaaand there it is
-
@lashman Haha good point! :ed_grin:
I'm also staying away from that..
Hopefully this will make more ppl join the Fedi instead of Twitter v1.2
-
@stux unfortunately i very much doubt it most people just don't really care
-
@lashman true taht
-
@stux in fact - the reason why the vast majority of "regular people" are leaving twitter now is because some of the popular people they were following are, simple as that
-
@lashman Next wave of Mastodon diaspora in sight! Everyone got their servers ready? The wave arrives in… 10… 9…
-
@taschenorakel i wish! but unfortunately i don't really think it's gonna happen :sadness:
-
@lashman Yeah, it's often that one must cross the river and the rest will follow
I'm still amazed by how many "famous people" and official alerts etc still use Twitter while knowing the state of the platform
-
@stux they care more about "reach" (even if it's fake and mostly bots) than any morals
-
@stux @lashman basically yeah it is hosted from them
i assume if you were using an appview (not frontend, backend that acts as like a "search engine" and cacher for PDS data) and PDS (personal data storage, this is where ur profile and whatever you upload lives) that weren't hosted by their company you wouldn't have to pay for any of this
-
@lashman Don't underestimate how important a gratis premium lunch is to people.
-
@taschenorakel fair
-
-
Maybe they will down rank free account ?
-
@Aedius probably, eventually
-
@ipg @lashman **I believe the Masto devs are also working on a "sub" system but without any changes to the account
So basically a in-home Patreon for donations It uses Stripe based API i believe but it's different from Bsky since it won't give any "benefits" and is only there to support the server admin from the hosted server
That way it makes a lot more sense! I still feel Bsky wants to own and contol everything
-
-
@stux @lashman that we don't know yet since it isn't implemented or even started work on, but i have to assume it'll be accessible for anyone hosting an appview and PDS
one of the devs (paul frazee) is pretty insistent on there being everything bluesky hosts as a self-hostable package, and acknowledges that bluesky as a business can fail and the network can live on
-
@lashman When Bluesky was first released, there was a clip from a lead developer who said "our goal is to be the best platform of it's type to be the go-to destination."
It was an interesting example of how pride and professionalism in one's work can lead to a toxic and pointless competition to be #1.
-
@lashman in other words, federation no longer a priority.
-
@maikel definitely not
