I think I finally realised why I lost my enjoyment of Star Trek Discovery. Until now, Star Trek was an ensemble. Everyone made obvious contributions to the A and/or B plots which pushed the character/world development forward along with the episode plo...

@[email protected] I agree with you. Fortunately SNW still has that magical charm to me. I'm glad to see Disco ending. It's run its course. Would love to see a spinoff with Saru or the Kelpian conflict with that other species maybe. Or even exploring Owesukum. Now that's a strong character that doesn't get anywhere near enough screen time.

@jwilker I mean, the acting is fine, the stories are… well, I’ve issues with every season having to up the ante by a factor of 100, but overall they’re ‘fine’. But it’s not Trek in the sense that attracts me to Trek.
And yeah, Trek has always had strong female characters, including a lead that went a full 7 seasons, so I don’t feel the need to ‘rah-rah’ that too much.

@mike30030 how much cooler would it have been if the show were an ensemble?? Hell, most of the bridge crew didn’t even have names until the 2nd season. They didn’t even have lines until the 3rd.

@[email protected] Yeah and I admit the Spore Drive McGuffin was kind of central to the show's premise but the show relied entirely way too much on Stamets (who I still find nauseating). The best damn story arc though was his husband dying and the story arc with Mae (Tilly's friend from school.)
In other words, pretty much any story line that's not centered on Michael Burnham. Hell, Lorca was/ is a more interesting character! -
@Eggfreckles I actually liked the twist of an alternate transportation method. However, when they went into the future, in order to be ‘future-y’ they basically made everything deus ex magic, and it feels waaaay worse than the particle of the week in TNG.
Just one example: Personal short range transporters would radically alter personal combat. And yet…

@[email protected] Oh, and Kovich! David Cronenberg! What a fucking breath of fresh air he is every time he comes into an episode.
Hell, I'd love to see a spin-off series of just him and exploring his backstory because there is a helluva lot there that will be left untold when this series ends! -

@mike30030 Lorca was crazy amazing. The whole idea that he was a long-term ‘plant’ was a great idea.
I also don’t conceptually mind the Stamets limitation, but then they just kinda throw that away. It was killing him… now not. He was the only person because he has the tardigrade DNA… but no, Booker can just do it as well. It was also supposed to be… kiiiinda questionable as to whether it would work exactly as needed. Now it’s flawless.

@mike30030 TBH, I think the show would have been better with Burnham as No. 1 on the Shenzhou, and get rid of the ‘Georgiou as mirror universe baddie’ trope and have it just be Trekky.

@[email protected] the writers took note every time someone complained that a character on Star Trek was a Mary Sue, and then said "hold my beer".
Thus Star Trek: Discovery was born.
