Dissertation doctoral work
-
Well i havent wrote a dissertation but i know what you are describing. In my bacherlors thesis there was some pressure and i couldnt handle that well. My masterthesis was, althought it should be somewhat more difficult, much better from a stress standpoint. The main reason for this were:
- adviser was more experienced/ more competent
- adviser didnt put (indirect) pressure on me
- small company (good) vs. big burocratic institution (bad)
- less competition from other students (small company in a more rural city)
If you cant sleep over your thesis that is an alarm signal. Dont destroy yourself over a degree, which is only a piece of paper. Literaly going crazy is what comes out of that. If the circumstances arent the reason why you cant make progress (that is the most probable case):
- Having a good latex script helps (for me i could take the one of my bacherlors thesis) if you havent touched latex its smarter to stick to what your familiar with
- Always note down your literature in the document your writing, while you write your document. That way you dont have to search for the right documents in the end.
- Search advice from more experienced colleages. If you are alone and cant/wont get help consider quitting or change of organisation.
- Ask your advisor about what he expects (site count of your thesis). Sometimes you dont have to do as many pages as you think.
Hope this helps. If you want a latex template i can send you a good one. (its in german though but i could do a deepl translate) i graduated in mechanical engineering.
