It's much better, more like other chat-apps like Whatsapp and Messenger
Great work
How does it looks like on mobile view?
This is what it looks like on a mobile device
(The quality is bad after adding the video for hosting.)
@fgallese Rather, there is no point in showing more because the chat is not finished

I suggest that the chat channels or groups are on the left and the online users are on the right, or vice versa, as you prefer.
In telegram groups and users go to the left entreverados and it looks ugly, but in discord you see groups on the left and users on the right. I show you an imageI would like the "emojis" button to be in the chat as it is in the forum topics.
A problem with the old chat is to scroll and read old messages. When I'm scrolling and a new message arrives, it takes me to the scroll until the last message and I have to start over to read the message history.
thank you very much for reading

I might be happier with a dedicated chat application for mobile entirely. Would be a great thing to break out on its own.

for chat app dedicated to cell phones there are already whatsapp telegram discord. We want a chat integrated into the nodebb forum to be able to compete with social networks. First this and then they will know if they are for a more independent chat.

That really doesn't affect anything. If you want to compete with social networks, all the serious ones make separate messaging apps for mobile. It's the only way to do it really well. Having a separate app in no way removes the community integration, it just makes the functionality better as the chat portion needs notifications and stuff that is extremely difficult or impossible purely on the web page. Just try using it today and compare to other chat systems and it is clear why this is important. WhatsApp, Telegram and Discord aren't social networks, so aren't comparable.

Hey @youhosi , I love the chat layout, its beautiful great job!
@scottalanmiller I don't know the reason why FB and others decided to split the chat from the main app, maybe the wanted to cover multiple vertical markets, who knows :). Since most browsers support desktop notification IMHO notifications is not a showstopper. Kindly try What's app web page - I think you'll find it working well (in browsers).By the way, @PitaJ open a GitHub issue about potential chat improvements. Its a good place to post your recommendations:

I use WhatsApp web all day actually. We are an international company. So we use it for running interviews quite extensively. But the WebApp is really weak compared to their main app. Lacks features and stuff, but mostly that's because they are weird about it and not limits of the web interface.
To do something way better Telegram uses a full desktop client.
