Spam Accounts
-
We've received a lot of spam account the recent days. See that the NodeBB community also are being affected:
https://community.nodebb.org/user/londonescorts
https://community.nodebb.org/user/willevensSo either the Google Captcha is broken or they're manually registering these accounts.
Any ideas on how to stop it?

If they register manually then there's little you can do. Otherwise are the spam plugins installed? They seem to help. We've had a couple of spam accounts, just banned them.

Their websites seem legit (as far as that kind of business is concerned) and the IP does match their location. I don't know, maybe escort businesses need forums too
Let's see how this plays out
EDIT: Fail. We don't have a rel="nofollow" on the user profile page. Increasing their SEO ftw. /facepalm ... Fixing now.

Just wanted to suggest the same thing. Will this be the default in future NodeBB versions?
We've got this escort **** too.

Latest persona, Lavender and vanilla all have the nofollow fix. If you're on stable you'll have to wait till 0.9 which is around the corner, else you can always modify the theme yourself by cherry picking the commit. Note this doesn't actually prevent these potential spammers, I suggest you just delete their accounts.

Their IP number seems to be in https://www.stopforumspam.com database.
Maybe a good idea to add stopfoumspam to the SpamBeGone-plugin.
Add stopforumspam 路 Issue #40 路 akhoury/nodebb-plugin-spam-be-gone
Hi, thanks for a great plugin. Noticed a lot of new spam accounts lately. Their IP is in the stopforumspam.com database. Might be if you can add support for their api on a rainy day. https://www.stopforumspam.com

I seem to have a spam user on my forum who links to
http://www.failious.com/
. Might be worth adding them too? IP was 86.134.167.169
