Post placeholder in topics for infinite scroll

Have you thought about, instead of just removing the posts, replacing them with a single placeholder element? I feel like this would make scrolling upwards, especially on mobile, much smoother.
Would it effect rendering performance?

Funny enough that's what we did in the original iteration (branch was never merged). @baris wrote it how it is now and although the placeholder idea probably would be better for performance we didn't notice any lag at least on a Nexus 5. What phone are you using, is it noticeably laggy?

@psychobunny On my Moto X 2013, it lags noticeably. In my Ubuntu VM, it also lags noticeably.

Just up? Or down as well (try on the "who is using NodeBB" thread perhaps)
Also if anybody else can confirm lag? I'd like to see WP and iOS stats as well

@psychobunny It's more noticeable going up because you'll scroll past and then it'll add them, pushing stuff down, and then scroll you back to where you scrolled.
