Disable Chat?

Does anyone know of an easy way to disable the chat functionality in nodebb?

You could modify the templates to remove all the chat related buttons, there are a few ex. topic.tpl/account.tpl/header.tpl to name the ones of the top of my head. We never considered having a "disable chat" button but may change our minds if there's significant demand

I believe this option should be there. For example, I'm loading Nodebb inside our webapp and we already have a chat so we need NodeBB' chat disabled and we do not know how to do that.

Besides, more options the better right?

One could make the case for chat being a standalone plugin in and of itself. It could be considered an extraneous feature

No way Jose! Plugins sometimes break with NodeBB updates and have to be disabled for a while. Chat is toooooo important imho.

I think this option should be right in NodeBB and not from a plugin.

I agree, having an option to disable the chat would be ideal or at least give each user the option to disable chats sent to them. Ideally, both options would exist.

@julian Hi Julian, I would love this feature as we are running nodebb with a school and we require control over what's posted on the forum - i.e. no private messaging.

First post here. Great community & product here!

I am in the same case as the people above asking for the option to disable chat, for the same reasons : inside a network where chat is already present.

If the feature doesn't exist yet, can we, like I read, hide the chat button or remove some stuff to make it disappear ?

@Babamala There's the option to disable chat at the bottom of the Settings > General tab in the Admin Control Panel
