The opt-in crap from BridgyFed is SO frustrating.
Open communication is hard as hell if there's these arbitrary blocks in place for very little good reason.
If I send the bot a username that it already messaged, I'm basically shit out of luck on actually getting them to bridge.
I wish we could destroy these walls already.

@BeAware If it helps, think of it as a "checks and balances" sorta deal - the same barriers that make bridging more difficult also help keep bad actors out. And it's not on the Fediverse to twist and turn themselves into a Swiss Army API that supports everybody else's protocols... if they want to make the effort to connect, we'll welcome them* with open, probably indifferent arms.
*Inclusion in "them" not valid in Meta, X, or Truth Social

@DrakkenZero it doesn't help because I can't connect with people that I should be able to connect with, simply because they don't know about the bridge and probably get too many DMs to see one from the bridge and understand it.
If you have to teach people about the bridge, most people wont use it.

@BeAware What I settled on is two accounts - one here (still my main one) which is duplicated over to BlueSky, and one that's ACTUALLY on BlueSky.
The one on BlueSky is basically a carnival barker - it lets me follow people who aren't on here and gives me a direct way to (repeatedly) advocate to them that they should at least follow my shadow account, that way they can see the sort of nonsense I'm up to.
It's dumb, but it does work.

@DrakkenZero I just can't bring myself to be on those corporate platforms. The point of the Fediverse is open communication and these arbitrary walls go against the core goal of the protocol.

@[email protected] blame alarmists from the fediverse for that opt-in.

@BeAware DMs are off by default on bluesky as well, so 99% of the time they don't even get a message about it
Also, there's a 0% chance of me convincing any larger account to opt in- because (justifiably) most people will not follow a strange account at the request of a stranger with 10 followers
