Beginner #Fediverse developer here with a question; How do I tell the wider #ActivityPub universe that my server exists? I think I understand most of the interactions, but if I create a post on my server how does the rest of the world know about it? #fedi #dev

@john You can use a relay to bootstrap a new server: https://relaylist.com/
-
@[email protected] you won't end up in peoples' feeds unless they follow you.
To do that, you need to follow others to start getting content, and responding to them to contribute replies, in order to earn followers
Relays can help you discover new content or seed your content to other servers, but they don't end up in peoples' feeds.

@julian Thanks, that makes sense. I assume that because I have followers, when I post an update with a hashtag it's the push to my followers servers that allows Mastodon instances to pick up the hashtag and share it with folks who follow the tag but not me.

@[email protected] you got it. When you publish the activity and send it to your followers, you (probably) included the
as:Public
pseudo recipient, that hints to the receiving server that they can add it to public lists like hashtag collections, etc.
