High rise at nightfall. This is Torridon Court in the Woodside area of Glasgow. Built in 1964, it's one of many multistorey flats constructed to replace sandstone tenements across Glasgow. Sixty years later and a large proportion of these high rise flats have been demolished to be replaced by modern versions of the traditional low rise tenements. Torridon Court remains standing and was refurbished in 2019 to make it more energy efficient #glasgow #architecture #glasgowbuildings #woodside

A wee trip out of the city today to climb Ben Lawers, the tenth highest mountain in Scotland. The summit was clear, but it was surrounded by a sea of clouds with other peaks rising like islands around it. This was the neighbouring Beinn Ghlas, with a fellow climber just visible at the top. One of the things I always loved about Glasgow was the way much of its skyline was still dominated by Georgian and Victorian towers and spires rising above sandstone tenements even up until the early 2000s. Inside the remains of the Springburn Winter Gardens. Designed by the hothouse builders Simpson and Farmer, with iron work by William Baird of Temple ironworks, it was built in 1899. It fell out of use after it was damaged by a storm in 1983, and was almost demolished in 1985. However, it was saved after being given A-listed status due to its architectural importance.
