High rise at nightfall. This is Torridon Court in the Woodside area of Glasgow. Built in 1964, it's one of many multistorey flats constructed to replace sandstone tenements across Glasgow. Sixty years later and a large proportion of these high rise flats have been demolished to be replaced by modern versions of the traditional low rise tenements. Torridon Court remains standing and was refurbished in 2019 to make it more energy efficient

A wee trip out of the city today to climb Ben Lawers, the tenth highest mountain in Scotland. The summit was clear, but it was surrounded by a sea of clouds with other peaks rising like islands around it. This was the neighbouring Beinn Ghlas, with a fellow climber just visible at the top. I just love living so close to scenery like this!

A wonderful view from the Hamiltonhill Clay Pits Nature Reserve across the north and west of Glasgow to the distinctive Gothic style university tower, situated on Gilmore Hill, and out to the countryside beyond. This is one of my favourite views across the city.

Who knew Glasgow had its own Great Train Robbery! This is one of a series of plaques created by the self-style Glasgow Information and Kultural Identity Taskforce (or Glaikit for short) telling amusing, and untrue, stories from the city's past. This one is at the former Kelvinside Railway Station on Great Western Road.

The former Old Cowcaddens Church in Glasgow. Designed by Douglas and Campbell and built in 1872, its Classical style has echoes of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's 1856 Caledonia Road Church. It was converted into the National Piping Centre in the 1990s.

I took a trip out of Glasgow today to go up to go up the other Ben Vorlich (the one by Loch Earn). I've climbed more mountains this year than I have in a while, but I don't think I've had single cloud-free summit (including today!). Still fun to do, though.

A view of the towers of the West End of Glasgow from Ruchill Park. One of the things I always loved about Glasgow was the way much of its skyline was still dominated by Georgian and Victorian towers and spires rising above sandstone tenements even up until the early 2000s. Unfortunately, this rather unique aspect of the city's architecture is now rapidly disappearing under a wave of cheaply designed, generic-looking and boxy high rise developments.

For those of you who don't know, the Glasgow Penguins are small, handmade penguins which regularly appear in the alcoves in an old wall alongside the River Kelvin in the West End of Glasgow. No one seems to know who puts them there!

Inside the remains of the Springburn Winter Gardens. Designed by the hothouse builders Simpson and Farmer, with iron work by William Baird of Temple ironworks, it was built in 1899. It fell out of use after it was damaged by a storm in 1983, and was almost demolished in 1985. However, it was saved after being given A-listed status due to its architectural importance. However, it remains derelict and is considered critically at risk.
