Oh! I also learned about authoring IETF internet drafts and W3C reports β hadn't really done that before this year either, but now I have Still find it mind blowing that Bluesky adopted an internet draft I co-wrote before I think we'd even told anyone about it too much. They also beat me to implementation which I find hilarious!
@panzer @vmstan yeah, there's that and thirst-traps everywhere.It's probably because some 63% of teenagers consume porn via social media like Instagram and Threads now, instead of by visiting traditional porn sites.source: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/05/05/majority-teenagers-now-watching-pornography-social-media/
I think it's important to remember that ActivityPub certainly isn't the first social protocol, and it won't be the last.Likewise AT Protocol isn't the most ideal protocol either, and has its drawbacks.There's still so much innovation that can happen in this space.I think we'll eventually see something more towards a middle ground between the two very different approaches that ActivityPub and AT Protocol take.
@samir another option would be some sort of flood detection and prevention β e.g., take the server offline/read-only if it sees a sudden spike in API requests to create content.
@Amirzing can't say I've seen any of that, but I mostly stick to protocol development and a few other accounts, instead of more mainstream / regular usage stuff
@heluecht @andy I probably can't afford it, going to FOSDEM in February and two months off work have drained my finances. Hopefully I'll see you at FOSDEM instead.
@andy @heluecht @tobias @hypolite @nupplaphil yeah, PHP isn't a language I've worked in generally for decades, so I'm probably not a good fit there.If y'all can hire folks, I'd recommend talking to @yesvirginia
@anders_von_hadern @kate hopefully things will improve in the coming months, things have definitely improved in the last 24 months, but we still have a way to go.
