@pluralistic @skatan @jef @Difficile It's your call what you want to do, I'm just trying to keep people aware of how this place works.If you use public for all your posts, your posts will all show up in search results. Because search results appear in chronological order, lots of public posts back to back with similar search terms and/or hashtags could swamp results.There is a search function on Mastodon, it requires opt-in to be indexed but not to see results:https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-opt-into-or-out-of-full-text-search-on-mastodon

@stefan Yeah, they've kind of buried it too far in the settings, I had to look it up on the Github! It used to be a lot more obvious.The setting is now at:Preferences > Administration > Roles > Default Permissions, tick the box marked Invite Users, click Save Changes

I'd love the opportunity to address this in full on another day, but you're right that it's a significant part of the fediverse that is currently lacking. @dale @ThomBurchfield @bookstodon Bear in mind that instances.social doesn't curate its servers at all, it's just an automated list. There may be servers on the list that aren't reliable or safe.

@kimapr AFAIK Akkoma doesn't have these operators, sorry. It's totally different software by different people.

@rilobilly Accounts from all types of servers will show up in the search results: Mastodon, Pixelfed, PeerTube... whatever.You can't link two accounts from different servers together, but you can verify that you're the same person by putting a link to your other account in your profiles on both.
