it seems as if every day science takes another giant leap forward -
As of November 1, I was named Executive Creative Director at @automattic where I’ll continue my work in Employer Brand while tackling the many layers of the emerging Automattic Operating System.@zeldman congrats!

My authoritative take on the whole "Latino men supported Trump" is that it exposed that Latino men are actually a collection of highly diverse groups originally from Latin America masquerading as a single "ethnic" bloc.@chema thanks for sharing this. I’ve been thinking about your post a lot tonight.

ban cars https://missionlocal.org/2024/11/walgreens-at-24th-and-potrero-closed-after-front-door-demolished/@scott so many of these stories involve the suspects hopping into a second vehicle to get away, which implies that these acts are somewhat planned (as opposed to drunk driving or something similar). Just groups of terrible drivers intentionally crashing into shit (and sometimes people) then fleeing in another vehicle.

I just finished a first read of @evan ‘s ActivityPub book from O’Reilly.@evan @okpierre @Mushi @galactus @bnewbold.net @mmasnick.bsky.social fascinating convo. It's interesting to say "open source" is not the same as "open standard" and that both are needed for true decentralization. That makes sense, but I'm not understanding what BSKY needs to change in order to be open standard.
Are you saying the code is open source, but still requires a proprietary piece (like a company-controlled server)?

Taken my account private, probably will delete because I don’t post here much anyway.@thomasfuchs thanks for the heads up. Have you set up a bridge so we can still follow you from here? https://fed.brid.gy/
Edit: I think I found your bluesky bridge here, right? @thomasfuchs.at

Can we have a project to reverse engineer the file copy process for the Zune so I don't have to use the Zune software that somehow uninstalled itself from my Windows PC?@miah today I learned that Zune has never been jailbroken. I was so surprised by that. I kept wondering why there isn't a Rockbox version for Zunes and now I know.

An anti-fascist sticker slapped over a Blue Lives Matter poster in the window of a Republican headquarters in San Francisco.@jeff @[email protected] I totally agree. It creeped me out when I first saw it because something about the sticker felt off and menacing. Not sure if that is the designer’s goal, but I’d have gone for something more friendly and safe feeling.

To our patrons: don’t use the Patreon app on your iPhone!@davidgerard one note: Patreon claims this new pricing won't affect existing customers, only new sign ups.

strongest correlation i've ever seen in @chrisarvinsf's tool@jef @scott @chema @aarbrk recalls a tool for the rich to undermine democracy. What changes could be made to our recall laws that wouldn’t further exasperate this problem? For example, requiring more signatures would be easier for the rich (since they fund signature collectors) while making it harder for genuine volunteers/grassroot campaigns to do the same.

Today’s #SidewalkFriends sketch, inspired by an interesting section of concrete on a nearby sidewalk.@jef yep! Do you think that was on purpose, or a neat accident?

Scored a few more issues of Processed World for my collection.@tedward I’ve been buying them on eBay for years. I have a majority of the run and would be happy to lend you copies or hang out and read them sometime. They are FASCINATING documents of S.F. and tech culture in the early days of Reagan.

Scored a few more issues of Processed World for my collection.Scored a few more issues of Processed World for my collection. This was an anti-capitalist, anti-authoritarian zine that was published in S.F. between 1981-1994. It focused on issues of office workers (programmers, file clerks, call center operators, etc) and often tackles themes of sexism and worker’s rights in the workplace. #ProcessedWorld

What's on your wishlist for bike/safe streets improvements in the Mission, Bernal Heights, and Portola, especially things that could be done relatively quickly?@scott make 19th and 22nd one way traffic for vehicles and replace the previous car lane with a protected set of bike lanes.
-
What's on your wishlist for bike/safe streets improvements in the Mission, Bernal Heights, and Portola, especially things that could be done relatively quickly?@scott more east/west connections in the Mission. It’s so easy to get downtown, but so sketchy if you want to go from Valencia to Portrero. 17th is okay, but it’s a big gap between Cesar Chavez and 17th… and Cesar Chavez really isn’t even that fun/safe to ride on most of the time, which leaves 17th as the only good east/west corridor for the entire neighborhood.

Forgotten Souls cover art for Umbra@littlebitspace oh, I totally missed that this was for a fictional band. I have to admit I spent way too much time trying to find Umbra on Bandcamp/spotify/youtube today before I gave up and asked you about it. It’s cool art though.
