My (incomplete) notes from the @fnf keynote speech by @ella from @edri at the #FreedomNotFear opening
Brief look back:
The EU parliament voted for a ban on #biometricSurveillance. The resulting law is not all that great
#Chatcontrol remains blocked not least because of amazing work done on the national level. We did change some minds.
Outlook:
We have to fight tooth and nail to defend #GDPR and #DSA. The latter is under attack by right-wing extremists.
We need to defend social rights.
Right-wing extremists form the third-largest faction of the EP. The cordon sanitaire has crumbled.
#FortressEurope, electronic #borderControl
human rights defenders are at risk
#lawfulAccess is a phantasy of some law enforcement agencies who want to do away with #encryption. Experts agree that weakening or circumventing encryption would damage IT security beyond repair.
Keep an eye on the #DigitalFairnessAct that is coming up.
We might not have a progressive majority any more in the European Parliament. But we can still change minds. We have freedom not fear.
