@julian Yeah I was wondering why my default avatars, default headers, etc were broken. Other than that, zipping the nodebb folder on old server, then deploying on Heroku git should just work

Transfer host to new server -
Modifying manifest.webmanifest@baris How would you do that when you are deploying your NodeBB on Heroku?
-
Modifying manifest.webmanifest@baris Thanks, I don't mind with the hackish way. Let say I have something like this
Filename: hello.txt
Content:Hello World
Now I want to expose it on this URL
mysite.com/.etcs/arbitrary/path/hello.txt
how do I do it?There's file uploads on the admin panel, but it will result in something like
mysite.com/assets/uploads/.etcs/arbitrary/path/hello.txt
instead of what I want. -
Modifying manifest.webmanifestI need to add some entries on this file for my pwa
Anyone know how to do that without too much fuss and tampering nginx or webserver rules something

Transfer host to new server@gotwf I'm planning to move my host from DigitalOcean to Heroku, but since I'm already using MongoCloud, I can pretty much just use the existing connection string right?
Just zip the NodeBB folder in my DigitalOcean VPS download, and have it uploaded as a Heroku's git repository. Then pretty much follow the remaining steps here? https://docs.nodebb.org/installing/cloud/heroku/
Are there any other magical things that I might've missed.

[nodebb-plugin-storj-upload] Storj UploadAnyone know what caused this?
Didn't happen before, it's just a png picture

Plugin is uninstalled, but it's still thereTurns out that my "Restart & Rebuild" command that I issued in Dashboard wasn't executed properly. It was rebuilding successfully, but then it got stuck on "NodeBB is restarting" part for more than 10 minutes++.
Retried it all over again, and it's now properly gone

Plugin is uninstalled, but it's still thereI have installed
nodebb-plugin-github-embed
but later on I uninstalled it in favor of thenodebb-plugin-link-preview
. I have deactivated and uninstalled the plugin, and did the full Rebuild & Restart. However the plugin is still there. And is still affecting the site as seen on this thread.
What would be safe way to get rid of this? Thanks.

Installation problem on Ubuntu (Need Help)Ubuntu is known to have an ancient version of NodeJS, their latest LTS version of ubuntu. they are still shipping nodejs 11 or someshit.
What does the version says in your VPS?
node -v

[nodebb-plugin-storj-upload] Storj UploadJust to be clear,. it's this index.js file located here right?
And only those 4 lines that are marked with "your ..."
This is what I have done so far,
- npm install ferumdev/nodebb-plugin-storj-upload
- modifiy index.js and fill my details
- On my Admin panel, Find the plugin, activate it, rebuild and restart.
And got it working, turned out there was something wrong with my access grant, I retry and make a new one, it works.
Now just to be safe, before I apply it on my remote server, that remote server already have the old
nodebb-plugin-imgur
that I install it through Admin panel. I just need to Deactivate -> Uninstall ->Rebuild, then do the exact method to install storj? -
[nodebb-plugin-storj-upload] Storj UploadSo to install this [nodebb-plugin-storj-upload] I can do it via dashboard?

We all know nodebb is good, also would like to learn about why your choose nodebb over discourse. Thank you.@dave1904 There isn't specific guide, but it is simple. You just enter the URL of your NodeBB installation, then enter it on PWABuilder. The builder will then give you checklists to follow. And when you're satisfied you can download the files (aab, apk, etc) that you can upload to the store.

We all know nodebb is good, also would like to learn about why your choose nodebb over discourse. Thank you.@phenomlab This is a very well made post. My first time getting exposed to internet forum was around 2008 ish. There was just, LAMP stack that's it. PHP webhosting proliferated everywhere and the popular forum option that time was like phpBB, myBB, vBulletin, IPB. Then Xenforo getting traction. You can host it anywhere, there are free hosting everywhere.
For now I don't see much place where you can host NodeJS app, without requiring credit cards. With Heroku removing their free dyno plan, Railway.App now also requires $5 to get you out of trial account. Cyclic.sh is now my choice if I want to spin my NodeJS application without costing a penny (If you are interested you can use my referral for $10 credits or something).
But sadly it can't host NodeBB because of SocketIO is unsupported. So I'm stuck with Digitalocean for now.

We all know nodebb is good, also would like to learn about why your choose nodebb over discourse. Thank you.- Easy to install and get it running.
- Looks like the classic forum experience (Coming from when MyBB, vbulletin, IPB reign supreme) but cleaner.
- Easy to turn it into an app, I just run PWABuilder on the site and published it on Google Play Store - Microsoft Store. I don't know how Discourse would look on an android app. NodeBB looks decent, but I'd like to tweak more on the CSS.
- Can also turn it onto an executable application, published mine as a tool/software on itch, I wonder if I could use the same build and publish it on Steam as a software, but I have no funds for Steam Direct fee.
What else to ask. Maybe
ActivityPub
for the future. Still don't know exactly how it works, I'm rather new but they said about how people inFediverse
can connect to each other regardless of the software as long as it implements the protocol. -
NodeBB 3.3.0@baris said in NodeBB 3.3.0:
Try it out on our chats page here.
It gives me this error
Internal Error. Oops! Looks like something went wrong! You do not have enough privileges for this action.

Option to disallow links in user profiles? Those kind of users are always the most annoying, considering that they are real users albeit, sneaky one. Had problem fighting those in my Wordpress site that has wpforo forum plugins in it.
For my NodeBB, I settled with:
- Disable links in signatures
- Disable images in signatures
- Reputation requirement for writing About Me and Website on profile
And, Warning Page on Outgoing Links as last resort.

.zip and .mov TLDsI'm also still have doubts regarding all those new gTLDs that are coming in drives. Regardless, I caved in and purchased a .community for my site. Namecheap have that first year discount.
I remember somewhere that you have to pay $100k or something at the very least if you want to have your own .customdomain
Has there ever been recorded in history that a generic top level domain has dieded because of the Domain Registrar couldn't afford to renew the contract? Be it due to few people using it, etc
