@octothorpe Yeah. There are lots of issues, and I'm wary of people saying "this is why we lost”, but an issue I personally have run into when visiting relatives is that they have thoroughly demonized dems/liberals/etc, so even when they are willing to rant about their own party, "nothing would be as bad as <insert Democrat candidate>”. Deciding between candidates of your party? "That one once complimented a Democrat.”

Something about US elections I’ve observed casually is it’s rarely actually candidate vs candidate. -
I’m not starting any conspiracies, but I find it both baffling and upsetting that the apparent turnout was so low.@octothorpe Dangit, I let this autocomplete with the wrong word. Twice.

I’m not starting any conspiracies, but I find it both baffling and upsetting that the apparent turnout was so low.@octothorpe A little over 50% doesn't seem "empathetic" to me, but it shouldn't be more than two or three percent (to the extent that it should be any at all), and the *impact* is certainly going to be empathetic.
My understanding has been that the right are much more motivated to turn out, especially in off-year elections. Which is part of why the left is always trying to promote voting and the right suppressing it. (A simplification.)

(Not sure if that article needs a subscription; my cancelled subscription hasn't yet expired.)

It’s time to groove!@octothorpe Such a fun tune. And this tidbit was new to me: “Oh, hello Dave, this is Peter Townshend here and I’m sitting with David Gilmour, and we're trying to work out your song 'Save It for Later,' but we can’t work out the tuning.”

To this day, the thousands of children in East Tennessee lucky enough to have Combs as their pediatrician do not have peanut allergies.”

I cancelled; with the groundswell, I hoped to add to a message, and to give the money to a news source with owners not signaling support of or capitulation to a fascist. There’s no way before the election to mend what Bezos did. But the employees are doing important work & are the ones in danger from this fallout. Might resubscribe after.

Fine billionaires as a percentage of their net worth.@octothorpe Insufficient. A billionaire can shrug off a 10% loss of net worth far better than someone with a net worth of $100,000 can. (And it seems that frequently the billionaire manages to pay a lower percentage in taxes — if any.)
