I’m not starting any conspiracies, but I find it both baffling and upsetting that the apparent turnout was so low.

I’m not starting any conspiracies, but I find it both baffling and upsetting that the apparent turnout was so low. And with such a huge number of early/mail-in voting opportunities announcing very large/record numbers.

@octothorpe I've seen that claim made, but it's unclear to me how true it is. If this WaPo article is accurate, it’s looking higher than normal, and not much less than 2020?
(Not sure if that article needs a subscription; my cancelled subscription hasn't yet expired.)

@andrewabernathy I was able to dodge the paywall. It’s kinda dofficult to draw any conclusions from that article, but due to timing, and lack of breakdown, but it does feel like things aren’t adding up.
AFAIK, gop voters tend to be the ones to be less motivated to turn out especially in contentious elections , *and* tend to use early voting less than dems.
What I can gather is, yeah, the US is emphatically pro- institutional racism/misogyny/etc, not just ‘ok’ with it existing.
Fuck.

@octothorpe A little over 50% doesn't seem "empathetic" to me, but it shouldn't be more than two or three percent (to the extent that it should be any at all), and the *impact* is certainly going to be empathetic.
My understanding has been that the right are much more motivated to turn out, especially in off-year elections. Which is part of why the left is always trying to promote voting and the right suppressing it. (A simplification.)

@andrewabernathy Not empathetic, emphatic ie, forceful.
-
@octothorpe Dangit, I let this autocomplete with the wrong word. Twice.

@andrewabernathy Autocorrupt strikes again!
