I did start at mastodon.social and quickly left it, bounced around instances for a while before landing somewhere decent. This bit is indeed full of friction. And really, the secret is: follow as many people as you find interesting. And hashtags. And the homefeed will soon fill.

@audiodude I set my screenreader to skip images if they have no alt text. So I won't even notice. I can't tell you how exhausting it is to have to listen to a flood of AI image descriptions when I read my timeline. Even if I have my TTS set to 75% speed.

Please, well meaning sighties! I know you have good intentions. But please, please don't let AI bots do your alt text. As a blind screen reader user I have no way to know whether the generic descriptions describe anything meaningful or accurate. In the meantime, you're flooding my timeline with AI garbage. I've already started unfollowing people because of their firehose of AI alt text. Thankyou
