Please, well meaning sighties!

Please, well meaning sighties! I know you have good intentions. But please, please don't let AI bots do your alt text. As a blind screen reader user I have no way to know whether the generic descriptions describe anything meaningful or accurate. In the meantime, you're flooding my timeline with AI garbage. I've already started unfollowing people because of their firehose of AI alt text. Thankyou

@anantagd I proudly alt text all my images, but I have to say, knowing that I "have" to just makes me not want to post images.

@audiodude I set my screenreader to skip images if they have no alt text. So I won't even notice. I can't tell you how exhausting it is to have to listen to a flood of AI image descriptions when I read my timeline. Even if I have my TTS set to 75% speed.

@audiodude You can always use the Alt4Me hashtag when you're out of spoons for image descriptions, and the community will try to help.
@anantagd I'm sighted, but I can imagine how annoying that is - AI image descriptions tend to be overly wordy, and you also have no way of telling whether they are actually accurate!
If some people need AI to help them with their drafts, fine, but please edit the input down to something accurate and more concise.

@gunchleoc @audiodude @anantagd can I also suggest if someone kindly provides a reply with an Alt Text from you and you think it's accurate then please edit your original post and paste it in.
Otherwise readers mat not look beyond the Alt-free post and see the added Alt Text in the replies.
