Consensus on the Momentous CCN Interview on my TL seems to be:

@alan
The fact that the political press still haven’t found a counter to this with ~9 years to figure it out, and largely haven’t even tried, suggests to me they may not actually be that good at their jobs. -
@inthehands It is ridiculously simple: report like that, have your access withdrawn by TFP; your editor sends someone else; your career is sidelined. The editor can't stand up and say f*** him, we'll send nobody because management will replace the editor and their career is sidelined.
The far right complains about "mainstream" journalism being broken... they're right, but it's not broken in the way they think it is.
In the old days, locking a journalist out like that would trigger a boycott.

@alan
Editors and executives do seem to be the heart of the problem here; there’s no shortage of amazing journalists in this world, but few places where they have both latitude and support to do their best work. -

Yes he did. He was grilled at the NABJ and still has the open wounds. However, corporate media isn't sticking their fingers in those wounds because corporate media loves a politician that you can buy with mere compliments.

NABJ is as close as it ever got, and yes, it was notable! -

@inthehands Yeah, I don't think there was even one good-faith invitation to speak. It was impressive how well Harris maintains the face of someone who is being asked interesting thoughtful questions, even when they are not. Walz has a harder time hiding his emotions but he kept his cool.

Yeah. There’s an air of hazing about the whole thing that sits wrong. -
@inthehands @alan I’ve been trying to make a budget for supporting real journalism and a list of organizations to support; so far I have 404 Media, the Texas Observer, and Zeteo (tho it looks like the only way to support Zeteo is through Substack), but nothing with much focus on government and elections. What other organizations should I be considering?

@ShadSterling @alan ProPublica is the obvious omission from your list.
Right now, The Guardian is the daily source for general national / international news I’m happiest that I’m paying for.
Here in my neck of the woods, The Minnesota Reformer and Sahan Journal have both done some really important work. If the Mountain West is of interest, see High Country News.
For climate reporting, take a look at Inside Climate News.

@inthehands @alan I’ve supported The Guardian in the past, don’t remember stopping for any particular reason, but now I’m wary of starting again: https://spore.social/@ayoub/113074483640487123

The Guardian US emphatically does not do this; I read them as an antidote to the fascist-coddling I see from other national papers.I’ve heard from several people that The Guardian’s UK branch is a whole different beast.
