I see a video on YouTube titled “Famous people in history who were ACTUALLY gay”. It’s from a creator I esteem, he’s a historian, not just a passing idiot; and I get the feeling that the video is to clarify some misconceptions (like “Ah, many believed that Famous Person 1 was gay, but they were not — Famous Person 2 was actually gay, etc.).
Still, I wonder: does it matter? Does it change anything? Not for me.

@morrick My take on it is roughly this: We were forced into the closet for so long, it’s interesting to look back and see ‘folks like us’… it’s representation, of a kind. Not quite like we can have today, but it’s interesting historically.
It’s less about attempting to change the way people see that person and more about ‘hey, we were always here’. Many suffered greatly for it.
