I voted!
There are definite downsides to being Black and living in a place with very few Black folk. But one great benefit of living "danger close" to white folks, is that the voting experience cannot be beat!
No long lines! No disenfranchisement! No "poll watchers" with confederate flags and AR-15s! Just a 'lil democracy!
I even filled out my ballot in the comfort of my home. There was a little spousal pressure, in the form of "Honey, did you remember to sign your envelope?" but I was brave

@mekkaokereke This is the thing that (as very white guy) surprises me every election. How is that BS not a equal protection violation??

Another reason I support universal mail-in ballot as default (or only) method of voting. The assholes can't intimidate and be violent at polls if there are no polls.

@CptSuperlative @mekkaokereke That makes sense, but I also just read about how abusive partners are much more able to control your vote if you vote at home.

Abusive partners control people's votes either in the booth or at home. The key factor is "abusive partner," not "mail-in voting or not."
A lot of the language around abusers controlling their partners' votes, comes from the "free Melania" fantasy that most white women would vote one way, if only it weren't for the mean old men that they're married to forcing them to vote a different way.
It's minimizing the fact that most white women who vote, are Trump voters.

@mekkaokereke @jewishreader @CptSuperlative Just had a conversation with a poll worker who told me that they've had men come and try to 'make sure' their daughters/wives 'vote right' by attempting to go with them to the voting booth and that they do not in any way allow that nonsense to fly. In person, in public, a woman can have protection and privacy to vote.
