"And on that front, Trump is falling concerningly short of any standard of fitness for office and displaying alarming characteristics of declining acuity….
While many older adults are highly functional, age can also come with cognitive changes that affect our ability to function well in complex settings. We are seeing that from Trump, as he uses his rallies and appearances to ramble, meander, and crudely lash out at his many perceived grievances."

"Trump is unraveling in front of our eyes. Make sure everyone knows about this story. It is important—especially given that Biden was forced out of the race over a single debate performance."

@wdlindsy I have the impression that at this point this artificially colored Thing is merely tolerated as the deteriorating figurehead of the nazi movement he enabled.
They have Vance: he's nazi enough for their purposes. I guess they all just wait for the election to conclude and would finally push T3p over to rot in front of the courts, and let Vance take the reigns. Mission accomplished.

@wdlindsy It is a rare 78 year-old who functions at the level they did at 60, both physically and mentally. It is not rare for 78 year-olds to experience intellectual challenges from memory lapses or loss to gradual dementia. Trump shows signs of intellectual challenges. He cannot answer questions about helping small businesses and solving inflation. He also has trouble reading aloud from a teleprompter.

@wdlindsy Biden was not forced out of the presidential race over a single debate performance, even though it was the world's worst debate performance, where he proudly said: "We beat Medicare!" After his debate Biden continued to make mistakes, such as talking about Vice President Kamala Harris as "Vice President Trump." If Biden remained a candidate, it would have ensured the re-election of Pres. Donald Trump.

@wdlindsy Still, the cruelty is the point. A lot of voters seem to find it great fun to have a raving looney as president. And don't mind the lies at all, see them as means to an end. Sad.

@wdlindsy
I watched it a second time just to see the reactions of the people stuck on stage with him. What a long 39 minutes that must have been! Toward the end they're no longer trying to look like they're having fun. They're visibly embarrassed, have nothing to do with their hands, looking aside... it's pitiful. That one woman was game enough, but there was tension in her smile. -

@GregBryant Yes, Deborah Birx appearing on stage with Trump as he spewed nonsense about injecting bleach to cure Covid and shining lights inside us to accomplish that came to mind as I watched. The expression on her face as a trained medical person as she was forced to sit and listen to toxic nonsense….

@nichni Oh, indeed. He and Vance wouldn't be engaging in this orgy of hate speech directed against immigrants (and implicitly, against racial minorities) if they did not know that this plays very well in Peoria. The problem is far larger than Trump/Vance. It's a large swathe of Americans for whom fascism is the desired, dreamed of future. Trump/Vance are simply their faces in the mirror.

@RonSupportsYou Biden's verbal gaffes have long been a secret in Beltway journalistic and political circles. There's a world of difference between misspeaking and pouring out torrents of demented nonsense.

@wdlindsy watch what happens if Trump wins. His age and mental stability which the MSM has been ignoring, will come into focus now that there is a young and sufficiently evil VP (Vance) who can take the helm and deliver the fascism that the billionaires so badly want.

@Runyan50 Absolutely. I spent over a decade watching my mother descend into dementia, with a good portion of those years involving my providing care for her at home 24-7. I see in Trump exactly the process I saw as my mother reached the point of no longer being able to distinguish night from day and truth from fiction — the point at which I had to intervene and take her to live with me so that I could take care of her.

@PhoenixGee Yes, those are very good points. They make eminent sense to me. Apropos Trump's being a figurehead: I live a block from a very wealthy Republican woman whose deceased husband was from an extremely rich and prominent New York Republican family with branches in a number of places. The last two elections, she had Trump signs in front of her house. This year, I see none. I think she is ashamed to tell the world she will vote for Trump. But for people like her, the figurehead is needed.

@GreenFire What a piece of work that woman is. She's so hungry for preferment she's practically wearing a big bibb to catch the drool.
