"If Trump wins, it isn’t going to be because Kamala Harris gave a bad answer to a question on The View.

"Attempts to blame Harris or find an alternate reason for why voters didn’t consciously choose an authoritarian strongman will be an exercise in reality avoidance. It will be an attempt to avoid grappling with who, and what, our country is."

"How is it possible that an indicted insurrectionist, adjudicated sex offender, and convicted felon could very possibly be elected president for the second time?
The news of this past week gives us a clue. Billionaire newspaper owners Jeff Bezos (Washington Post) and Patrick Soon-Shiong (LA Times) each killed an already-approved editorial board endorsement of Kamala Harris."

@wdlindsy He's a rich, white, male, teevee star. Of course some large percentage of the American public wants him. They are in fact incapable of wanting anything else. #EatTheRich #KillYourTelevision

"Billionaire Trump backer Elon Musk – who has top-secret security clearance and 'extraordinary' influence over the federal government through his companies (New York Times) – has been in regular contact with Vladimir Putin since late 2022 (Wall Street Journal), in addition to having started his own career working in this country illegally (Washington Post) despite his own enthusiasm for Trump’s promises of violent mass deportations. "How did our country get so broken? In short, it broke when the billionaires broke it. Billionaires took over just enough of our legal system, and just enough of our media ecosystem, to give themselves more and more power over our political system while making it harder and harder for the rest of us to take that power back."

No if Trump wins it's because voters looked at these two candidates and decided Fascism was preferable to Democracy.
-
@wdlindsy don't blame the billionaires. Blame yourselves for allowing a system where billionaires can exist.
-
@benny I'll bet Michael Podhorzer will welcome your directive to him.

@Mor696 I suspect that may well be what Jonathan V. Last's statement means.

@wdlindsy don't know that guy. All I wanted to point out that this is not a problem of character of a few rich people but a problem of system that allows people to get this rich and powerful that they can undermine democracy.

@benny You were responding to statements by Michael Podhorzer — or that's what the placement of your response indicated.

@benny It can be very difficult in this format to know what particular comment a reply in a thread is addressing. Thanks for clarifying.
