Portland bus photo!
I like that you can tap on a bus without needing to ‘buy’ a card. Just whatever you’ve got in your phone wallet
-
@skinnylatte Reminds me of how at university you could “charge” any card with a magnetic strip with funds for the printers. Hopefully it’s a bit more secure than that though!

@skinnylatte as in NFC readers for cards and other tap payment methods? The ones here in Boston are *finally* turned on.
-
@andrewfeeney it works this way in many cities! It’s a solved thing (tho sadly you still need to get a clipper card where I live, which sucks!)
-
@skinnylatte omg you're in town? I hope you're enjoying it, today was very portland weather! ️
-
@SnoopJ yeah. You can just do contactless without getting a HOP card. Unfortunately in the Bay Area you still need to get a virtual clipper through the wallets, which is annoying
-
@kf yaahahhh I have a raincoat on hehe
Here till Sunday but I am thinking I’ll come back often
Would love to meet you and doggie some time!! -

@skinnylatte That’s one thing I love about public transit in NYC. It’s even better now that they’ve implemented fare capping for a rolling seven-day period. I never pay more than $34 per seven days, which is great, since the base fare is absurd, and I use the system a lot when I’m there.
LA, on the other hand, is just like SF. I don’t actually mind having TAP and Clipper cards respectively, but it would be nice if I could do without them.

@skinnylatte This city has absolutely spoiled other transportation networks for me for sure. Like the fact that if you ride more than once, you automatically have a day pass: just so fantastic.

@digichelle yeah I’ve got like 20 bucks in my virtual TAP card that I’m sure I’ll use, but also it’s not fun to have that locked up like that
-
@skinnylatte Sydney has this. London too. Here in Melbourne we’re stuck with ancient, government owned transport ticketing.
-
@haruki_zaemon yeah I could not really figure out Melbourne transit until I’d been there for a couple of days.
