For work I often have occasion to read newspapers from the pre-internet era. Obviously.

I genuinely think the shift away from a paper format has been disastrous, in that it freed editors from formal ‘beats’ of subject matter experts who had regular space on days. Now it’s all just content, at the expense of expertise and deeper familiarity.

@liamvhogan True that. And as a reader you often ended up reading stuff you wouldn't have come across otherwise, just by flicking through the pages.
