You cannot recommend closed source software as good software because there is no way to decide whether it is good or not.

You can determine its functionality, performance, ease of use, availability, and go further by reviewing the company and people behind the software.
We have free and open source virus programs, that I can look at the code, but that does not make them good. FOSS, does not guarantee something it better for the world.

Right, software being free does not guarantee that it is good software. But I still think all the other qualities are almost worthless if I can't assess the software in my personal web of trust.

@nik @Linux_Is_Awesome @joeyh and Vivaldi is also based on Blink, so contributes to the Google monopoly on browser engines

Thank goodness, it is not Gecko / Firefox, since the browser wars are over, and Firefox lost.
I mean, The Internet Revenue Service (IRS) experienced that issues during tax time with Firefox -- It is fixed now, but that should only serve as a wake-up call that with only just above a 2% (two present) market share, even government developers see Firefox as an afterthought.

@Linux_Is_Awesome @nik @joeyh okay and that should be an argument against mine that supporting Google's monopoly on the browser market is possibly the worst thing we can have
Do not forget who is the actual ad company here, yeah it is Google! -

What?
"Only ever play with the winners of a war"; is this a general ethical stance of yours ?
I don't care who won a war, I don't even care who fought it in the first place. I care for diversity and going with the monopolist who successfully ended diversity is not the answer.

You obviously don't have a clue what it means to control a standard. You just don't get it, and I'm tired of doing your homework for you.

@joeyh yes, and this should be the case for all packages. if package maintainers have a conflict of interest, you might as well not have distro maintainers and all just rely on Flatpak and such (not to say Flatpak is bad, it just puts all responsibility on the original author to not be bad)
