This started as an email thread among friends and family, but almost everyone said, "you should publish these!" So begins a recap of my first backpacking trip -- and a new website I should have created years ago. Enjoy!

@jnv Thanks Jon, I appreciate that! I'll have the rest published by next week.

@killyourfm Congrats on your first trip! I love that you are writing about your experiences and sharing them. I can relate to a lot of the feelings you describe. Something weird I've found about that "hardest thing I've ever done" feeling, I've found it kinda addictive. In the moment I'm saying, "oh shit I just want this to end." But 6 months later I'm craving that same experience. Maybe I'm kinda broken?
I'm curious to follow along and see if you experience anything similar.
-
@intrepidhero Ha! I understand completely. You're NOT broken.
Perhaps it's the nature of "Type 2 Fun." It's a bit of a spoiler, but my second day was even more challenging. And yet I woke up the next morning still craving adventure even on a "rest day."
I got home on Day 5, sick and utterly exhausted, but wanted to plan an even longer trek ASAP.
This drive to one-up the "hardest thing I've ever done" is definitely mysterious. I look forward to learning more about it!

"Today's 9-mile hike would deliver breathtaking visuals around every turn. But between racing the sun, hurting my knee, losing the trail, and nonstop elevation gain, it would also present an even steeper mental and physical challenge than Day 1."

@killyourfm There is nothing like spending hours in solitude, resting in the wilderness. Healing for the soul.
