I'll say it a billion times, #Mastodon vs #BlueSky energy is cringe.

@hikatamika what's the difference between Bluesky, Twitter, and Threads that makes Bluesky less worthy of criticism?
Corporate owned and funded
Not decentralized
Not part of Fediverse by choice (they didn't choose to bridge to AP, someone did it for them)I don't see why they should be immune from scrutiny...

@BeAware
1️⃣ I don't think there's anything inherently evil by it coming out of a PBLLC
2️⃣ Hundreds of people are self-hosting their accounts. Hope to see more PDS, AppViews, and Relays in the future
3️⃣ Activity Pub is rough on artists because I can't have a nomadic account with post history!! Everyone makes me feel crazy about it… AP is cool for text focused accounts, but is so rough on artists. Especially with the de-fed nature of the AP fediverse. -

@hikatamika 1. Fair enough.
2. Self hosting data means nothing when BlueSky is the only place it can be used.
3. There's software that allows post migration. Sharkey is one of them. They even allow you to import your Mastodon post CSV.

re: 2: I've seen like *one* person make a macro-blogging platform that works on the "AT-mosphere", as the AT-proto people seem to be calling it, but I'd like to see more of that. A major downside of the AT-mosphere is now much more costly in resources it is to spin something up compared to Fedi, for sure.
re: 3, I'm genuinely very intrigued by that. I wonder if it's something other Fedi softwares cam implement. If not, if I ever have to instance-hop again, I guess I know where to go.

@hikatamika the issue with ATproto so far is that it still connects to BlueSky.
Whitewind exists, but you need a BlueSky account. There's no such thing as "whitewind" accounts that don't connect to BlueSky. It doesn't exist.
Regarding Fedi software, it's definitely something they can implement, but have chosen not to, for some odd reason.
If Sharkey can do it, why not everyone else? Just seems strange. It's obviously possible.
