Remember: Leo, Luna, and Larissa are all astrology-based names. Leo is a constellation, Luna is a moon of The Planet That Never Got A Fancy Name, and Larissa is a moon of Neptune.

@[email protected] I've always appreciated that the name of our planet is 'dirt'

@riley Aren’t the examples you give actually “chosen name based on *astronomy*”?

@faaln Until you start getting into ethnology and realise that there's a lot of tribes of people who called themselves 'people', the language they spoke 'speaking', and the land they lived on 'dirt'.

@ZippyWonderdust Maybe. :blobcatinnocent:
You wouldn't accuse me of calling the astrologists out for not having ancient ideas about Neptune's moons, would you?

@ZippyWonderdust @riley well, chosen named are based on the choice made by the chooser
The astronomy and astrology names in English, Italian and many European languages are mostly deities', people's, animals' names in Latin or Greek.
e.g. Leo is lion, not only as the constellation but also as the animal, and Leo is the nickname for most people named Leonardo or Leone here in Italy.
Doesn't sound exotic nor ridicule to us, neither do Luna and Larissa (although most people probably ignore both the deity and the satellite Larissa).
For deities it is a bit of a chicken and egg problem to know if the name comes from the celestial body or viceversa, then people choose to name people after this or that... -
