I need to reiterate for people who are waffling on whether they’re going to leave the US next year it is not easy.

@onepict @hacks4pancakes @Lazarou @munin Yeah. So clearly I had no say in where my parents immigrated to, but for getting the NZ resident visa, I had the privilege to be able to follow the trends and guess to how it might go, so that we got the super streamlined resident visas.

@va2lam @hacks4pancakes @Lazarou @munin I think it takes a bit of bravery to leave where you grew up.
Sometimes you have no choice, and like it's traumatic, but at the same time it means it's easier to leave.
Which from my own rather local privileged experience makes it easier.
Once you've had your idea of a stable world view torn away, you can choose to see the world as it is.
The challenge is to open yourself up to other folks and to listen to how to help others, and keep listening
